Ain't democracy grand?

Molly thinks Kerry is dull, : but I'm glad he's doing better -- haven't been watching much news, so she may be right, but he knows some things and he's stuck his neck out a number of times over the years (Central America, CIA & crack, and that Vietnam thingie).

Four wedge issues

"Four wedge issues": that E.J. Dionne thinks could work for the Dems.

Democracy at Risk

Will they even count our votes? The question gets wider and wider circulation.

No child left behind? Hah!

Reading the nonverbals at the SOTU produces a different take on the Bush agenda.

Duck hunting with a litigant? How could that be a conflict?

"If you'd locked your door, I wouldn't have been compelled to steal your stuff."

Counting the ways

Well, let's see: (1) it wasn't nine months of diplomacy, but at least five years; (2) European countries played the lead role in bringing this about; (3) Clinton's administration was supportive of those efforts (contrary to the assertion that they had dealt with terrorism solely as a criminal matter -- tell that to those hit by our cruise missiles); and (4) the lies told by Bush and his minions, continuing today with Cheney on NPR, have made it clear that America's word is not worth much, unless it is threatening you with military attacks. What did I miss?

Capital Games

'No one can now doubt the word of America.': "That's what George W. Bush told the United States and the world public in his State of the Union address this evening. He was referring to the war in Iraq, which he defended vigorously in the speech. But this remark made it seem he was oblivious to the fact that many people around the globe believe that the war in Iraq demonstrated that Bush's word is worth nothing."

Not quite fully on the money

Not quite fully on the money: That means they wre careful to avoid flat-out lies and replace them with distortions that could be spun as factually accurate, so what's the problem.

Timing of State of Union to cut into Iowa caucus news cycle

State of Union: "The hour-long speech will seek to present the President as a proven, unifying leader, in contrast to the eight Democrats jostling to replace him, fresh from their fierce and divisive battle at the Iowa caucuses.
As White House officials privately admit, the date was carefully picked, giving the President an uninterrupted hour of network prime time to get his own case across, stressing a positive agenda - in contrast with those of the Democratic candidates. "

In Grover's World, we'll deliver pizza and say thank you for the opportunity

Sowing the Seeds of GOP Domination might also be called, Grover Norquist's dream of a one-party state.
